So that you can grow your business while keeping your family time a top priority.

Summer is a time for sunshine, vacations, and often, a slowdown in business activities. If you have kids at home that are usually at school it adds even more fun, but it can bring its own set of challenges at the same time. Between navigating summer schedules, vacations, and pool days the summer is a fun, but busy time! (especially if you’re a parent!) On the one hand, you want to enjoy the time with the family. On the other hand, you have work to do to keep the ball rolling on your marketing & business goals. (I’ve been there!)

If you are a solo-preneur or service provider, this season can be an excellent opportunity to stay engaged, boost your online presence, and attract more clients… and most of it you can do in the downtime, a few minutes a day.

I want to share with you three practical ways to keep your business marketing plan even when the temperature rises. AND some great tips to help with creating balance this summer.

1. Come up with seasonal marketing strategies

The summer season offers unique opportunities to tailor your marketing strategies to the current trends and events. Consider offering special summer promotions, discounts, or themed services that resonate with your audience. Consider Holidays (Father’s Day, Juneteenth, or 4th of July specials (if you’re US-based) and back-to-school promotions in August if your brand serves teachers or young families.

Create Seasonal Content

Write blog posts, create social media updates, and send newsletters focused on summer-related topics. This not only keeps your audience engaged but also helps improve your SEO by incorporating relevant seasonal keywords. Some ideas are summer travel, outdoors, and hot weather activities.

Run Summer Promotions:** Offer limited-time deals or discounts that encourage quick action from your customers. This can help drive sales and increase your customer base.

Engage on Social Media

Use summer-themed posts, contests, or giveaways to keep your social media audience engaged and attract new followers.

If you plan in advance, one or two larger campaigns can help you FOCUS your marketing efforts to those events, and breathe a little easier and enjoy summer fun yourself when they are done.

2. Optimize Your Online Presence

Summer is the perfect time to review and enhance your online presence. Make sure your website is optimized for the best user experience and visibility.

Update Your Website

Ensure your website is mobile-friendly, fast, and easy to navigate. Add fresh content that aligns with summer activities and interests.

Focus on Local SEO

If you offer local services, optimize your Google My Business profile and ensure your business information is up-to-date. Encourage satisfied customers to leave positive reviews.

Refresh Your Portfolio

Update your portfolio with recent projects or case studies that highlight your skills and successes. This can attract new clients looking for your expertise.

Check out your “sticking factor”

Check yourself out on Google. What pages of your website and social media comes up? Is it consistent? Do you need to reword your link-in-bio? Make sure your brand is clear and easy to understand from every active social platform. If it’s not, take some time to clean it up. This is a great thing to do by the pool!

3. Network and Collaborate

Summer can be a slower period for many, making it an ideal time to build connections and explore collaborative opportunities.

Attend Networking Events

Look for local or virtual networking events, workshops, or seminars. These can be great places to meet potential clients or partners.

Collaborate with Other Businesses

Partner with complementary businesses for joint promotions or projects. This can help you reach a broader audience and create mutually beneficial relationships.

Enhance Your Skills

Take advantage of the slower pace to invest in your professional development. Online courses, webinars, and reading industry-relevant books can help you stay ahead of the curve. These courses and books are great, even if you’re traveling you can work them in an hour a day or less!

Tips For Balancing Business and Family Time

One of the biggest challenges for solo-preneurs during the summer is managing business tasks with children at home. Here are some tips to help you balance both effectively:

Create a Flexible Schedule

Designate specific work hours that fit around your family’s activities. Early mornings or late evenings can be productive times when the kids are still asleep, or can entertain themselves.

Set Up a Home Office Space

Having a dedicated workspace, even a small one, helps you stay focused and signals to your family that you are in work mode.

Involve the Kids

Depending on their age, involve your children in simple tasks related to your business. This can be a fun learning experience for them and can help you bond over your work.

Balancing family and work requires flexibility and planning, but with the right strategies, you can stay productive and enjoy quality time with your loved ones.

My greatest tip, not only for summer, but all the time is whatever you’re doing, be ALL there. In other words, if you’re working, focus on your work, even if it means trading some time for childcare with another work-from-home mom. If you’re doing a family movie day, don’t be on your laptop. Be present with them. This time invested in them will help them be more understanding when it’s work time again.

Staying engaged in your business during the summer doesn’t have to be a challenge. By leveraging seasonal marketing, optimizing your online presence, networking, and balancing family time, you can keep your business thriving and even attract new opportunities this summer! Remember, consistency is key, so keep the momentum going and enjoy the sunny days while growing your business!
